FAQ
We get a lot of questions from players and parents about how training works, what to expect, and how we approach coaching. This FAQ covers the basics to help you get started and understand the process. If you have other questions or want to chat about your goals, just reach out — we’re here to help every step of the way.
GENERAL TRAINING QUESTIONS
-
We work with youth and high school athletes (boys & girls), typically ages 8 to 18.
-
Yes. Sage Hoops is built for players of all levels — from beginners looking to build a foundation and learn the game, to advanced athletes preparing for tryouts or college recruitment.
-
Each session is focused and intentional, designed to build on the one before it. We train all areas of the game including ball handling, footwork, decision making, finishing, shooting, and more. Every drill is competitive, game-like, and built to translate directly to live play.
-
Most sessions are 1-on-1 or small group settings (2–4 players), allowing for individual attention and personalized instruction.
-
Each session is 60 minutes. We can extend sessions beyond that depending on the athlete’s goals, focus areas, or preparation needs.
-
Yes. While we emphasize developing complete players, we also tailor training to fit each athlete’s position. Whether you’re a guard working on creating space, a wing focused on versatility, or a post refining footwork and touch, sessions are designed to meet your needs while still building well-rounded ability.

coaching philosophy
-
We believe in developing complete players — skilled, smart, coachable, and competitive. Our training emphasizes long-term growth over short-term results. We focus on building habits, confidence, and decision-making that translate to real game situations.
-
Yes. Younger or newer players to the game need different things than advanced athletes, and we adjust our approach accordingly. Whether it's foundational skill work or sharpening advanced reads, our sessions are always age-appropriate and individually tailored.
-
We use basketball to teach life skills — responsibility, focus, resilience, communication, and work ethic. Our goal is to help your child grow not just as a player, but as a confident and disciplined young person.
-
Mistakes are part of learning. We don’t shame players — we teach them how to respond, adjust, and keep going. Mental toughness is a skill we develop just like shooting or ball handling.
-
Success isn’t just about making shots — it’s about growth. We look for players to improve their habits, decision-making, confidence, and ability to impact the game. Progress over perfection is the goal.
